There's a lot of debate about this. However, after countless experiences, the best time to fly is mid-morning from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
It's during this timeframe that you'll get the best visibility. It's also when air is the smoothest so you can expect a "cleaner" flight.
Sunset flights are also great and they are the last flight of the day. If you get a tour that leaves from the Vegas Strip, you'll come back to The Strip lit up in Neon. From South Rim, you'll get great shots of the Canyon at its most peaceful.
Indeed, the 7 a.m. "early bird" flights are the cheapest but they have some disadvantages, especially if you are flying out of Las Vegas. For instance, light at the bottom can be limited.
Understand that morning and sunset flights are in high-demand and are the first to sell out. To make sure you get such a flight, I recommend booking your tour at least two weeks in advance.
I also recommend you get a tour that uses the EcoStar 130. This is the best sightseeing aircraft flying today. In addition to have a cabin that's 25% larger, this chopper also features:
Front seats can't be booked in advance. This is because seating on helicopters is determined by the equal distribution of weight of all passengers.
I hope this post answered your questions about what time is the best time to fly. If not, see me in Live Chat or send an email to grandcanyonkeith@gmail.com.
